Brief
Replacing a composite deck in London. Their existing composite decking had been fitted under 2 years ago by their builder. It was already failing to the point where it needed replacing promptly. Situated immediately outside the back doors this had to be remedied in order to use the garden at all. They decided to call an expert and found Karl. He advised that replacing the existing composite and installing a new one would be the best option.
This isn’t the first time Karl has encountered cheap composite decking that simply fails promptly after installation by others. Unfortunately, the end-user is often none the wiser until the deck fails. We hope that talking about the use of cheap materials more will help clients choose a professional and a warrantied product.
Design
Karl helped offer a selection of suitable composite decking ranges. Opting for a premium product that is backed by a 25-year warranty the clients chose Millboard enhanced grain Limed Oak. Seeing as Karl was removing the entirety of the existing deck why not make the new one more exciting…
Karl routed out the underside of the decking boards that made the new steps. This made space to discretely fix LED strips underneath. These will nicely illuminate the steps at night without blinding anyone and add to the modern nature of the home. They’re also simply controlled with a remote or phone app. We also chose to pair this lighting with some LED spotlights to illuminate the beautiful brickwork of the property too. This will certainly set the scene when enjoying the garden in the evening.
Karl is an approved Millboard installer and has been installing Millboard decking since they began production in the early 2000s.
