Landscaping a whole garden in Denham

At a glance this garden had served its purpose, it was old and a little broken. The client’s children have moved out and a newly completed extension was completed.  The opportunity for a new garden was firmly on the agenda. The clients wanted a contemporary space that reflected the interior and maximised the useable space of the garden. A key objective was to keep it low maintenance.  Planting areas at several levels would allow the client to choose their own planting scheme after the landscaping.

Materials Palette for landscaping a garden

We considered a few different composite materials for this garden and agreed Millboard would look the best. This paired well with Namgrass and kept the space low in maintenance. Furthermore, these products are easy to keep looking good all year round without colour fade. We chose porcelain 600x1200mm tiles as a stepping stone pathway to the client’s outdoor office. This met the client’s needs and kept the aesthetic simple.

Rail sleepers to make raised planters kept us in budget. As we replaced the fence and painted it too, we used the same paint on the planters too. We do love Owatrol products…

Planting Plan to create a screen in a small garden

We left the scheme for the planting solely for the client. The brief really set the structure of the planting scheme. “We really should hide the garden office from the line of site to the side elevation of the property. Everyone can see it.” We recommended Photinia screens on frames. No need to wait years for them to grow as they were already over 2 metres high and 1m wide… Once in situ they did their job, the garden office was no obscured from site. (So was the shed too)

Client Feedback

“Neither of us are eager gardeners, however that has all now been changed by the inspiration and enthusiasm of Karl.

We had seen work created by Karl, and thought that our ‘little’ project a landscaper would not be interested in.  How wrong we were. Karl swept into our lives, bubbling over with great ideas that we would never have ventured on our own. Listening to a few requirements that we needed, we then left the rest for Karl to create. A couple of days later, we had pictures of what our garden could look like. We were elated with the drawings, and then the work began. Throughout the whole journey, Karl kept us in the ‘garden’ with him. Our new creation was transformed.

At the end of the project he gave us a complete handover, showed us what we needed to do to maintain our beautiful new creation, nothing was too much trouble.

We believe Karl was a true professional throughout our whole experience, and you could not doubt that fact that he is credit to carry the name of a landscaper.

He came into our lives as a job, and leaves us as a friend.

We wish him all the best in his future ventures.”

Karl said “ It was great working here, a pleasure to meet such lovely people. I think we had just about everything in this garden the clients wanted… and more”
