From the outset, this garden needed… a bit of a face lift. The monstrosity of a storage hanger inherited with the property took up over half of the garden. At first the clients thought this would be great for storage. It ended up just accumulating rubbish and becoming an eye sore.
Brief
The clients had recently completed their new extension. The builders also built a porcelain patio to immediately step out on to. We knew the patio would stay but the storage unit had to go. Ultimately the clients wanted to use this new garden space for a pergola situation with a composite deck and lights. A smaller shed replacement was also desired. The clients were apprehensive of the cost mainly because of the amount of waste we had to dispose of. Karl accurately quoted for this and kept the client expectations on track before even beginning the works.
Design
Karl designed a traditional pergola with some extra horizontal pieces to add a little privacy. This was then painted a contemporary grey colour to work with the composite decking they chose; The raised rail sleeper planters were treated with the same grey so they matched. The clients looked at a selection of different composite decks and decided Trex Foggy Wharf is the perfect option for them. In addition, we also fitted LED up lights to illuminate the pergola. There are more lights at the left-hand side that became a planter homing some fantastic Trachelospermum Jasminoides too.
We decided to keep the remaining space low maintenance using Namgrass fake lawn. Using a 10mm foam comfort layer underneath the artificial turf this made the area extra comfy under foot.
Garden Makeover with Trex
Once we disposed of the storage unit which ended up approx. 3 tonnes in steel. We decided to use the concrete pad left behind to construct the Trex deck onto. It’s still raised off of the ground using HDPE packers. We also used the side fixed clips making all the gaps in between the boards exactly the same. Of course, we used the Trex Protect tape too. This Trex deck is warrantied for 25 years by Trex. We even put a badge o there to prove it. We are proud to be TrexPro installers.
