Set in sunny Uxbridge this long Victorian garden is full of colour and fragrance in the summer. Sat at the end of the garden was an old shed and a bit of unutilized space.
Client Brief
The client asked Karl to get rid of the shed and make the space into a private seating spot where they could enjoy a G&T after gardening. Following the current code of practice for paving, promulgated by the Association of Professional Landscapers, a patio was created. Karl found some stunning flame textured natural sandstone paving in 900x600mm. The rippled texture gives a range of contemporary greys.
Creating a Private Garden
Across the back of the proposed paving area, Karl suggested installing some intricately designed custom-made metal screens. These are hot-dipped galvanised steel that are then powder coated to any colour the client desires. In this instance the client wanted the screens to match her National Trust greenhouse – the ivory-toned ‘RAL 1013’. As well as having a vast choice of colours there are also many different designs to choose from and the client chose the ‘Winter Silhouette’ pattern. These create the perfect backdrop to the seating zone whilst providing privacy too.
Oak Post Pergola
Karl designed a minimalist oak pergola that would dissect the corner of the paving. For some perspective, these small pieces of oak are in the region of 350KG, and the longest piece is a 7-man lift.
The sun will naturally, over time bleach the oak turning it a beautiful natural silver colour. It will take about a year or two to go fully silver. The client is currently deciding which plants they want to let grow up the pergola. Perhaps some climbing roses or even some Wisteria sinensis. Either would look and smell amazing.
