Every garden that we design is just as important as the last or indeed the next, no matter what size, simple or complex… Our passion is in your garden. Even when it comes to designing gardens within budget.
Located on a hill this property didn’t have any garden views until recently. The neighbours kindly removed several substantial trees, this resulted in beautiful views of the Chiltern Hills.
Client Brief
There was an existing raised pine deck that desperately needed replacing. A small lawn and a small patio with a pergola. The client didn’t like anything about the space and commissioned us for a complete redesign.
They wanted their new garden to be filled with colourful plants, raised herb beds and a new deck terrace.
Designing Gardens Within Budget
Like all projects this garden had a budget, we prefer to call this “An Investment”. The best place to start is with a design and materials specification. It’s at this point we can offer an accurate quotation and show off exactly what we can achieve within the budget.
Just because you have a budget that doesn’t mean you can have everything you want. In this case, one of the ways we kept costs to a minimum was by using smaller plants. They’re going to grow so if you can be patient for a year or two why not? The clients were incredibly happy we were able to use exactly the same planting scheme. It’s because of savings like these that we could use premium products for the structure of the garden.
Millboard decking accompanied with Accoya balustrade, both premium materials in their own right. The balustrade, we simply painted with Owatrol solid colour stain and paired this with stainless cables from StaLok. This resulted in a contemporary space to watch the beautiful planting come to life.
Natural York Stone Crazy Paving
In order to navigate the garden, a path of some description was needed. This wouldn’t really be used a lot so we wanted it to become a beautiful feature. Using broken pieces of York Stone to create a crazy paving inspired path. This gave us a further cost-saving. Using Cotswold flat shingle in-between the stones as the colour works well with the York Stone. This shingle also meant that by planting soleirolia soleirolii at the edges this would spread across and tie the path more into the planting scheme over time.
Bespoke Garden Panels
Despite being on a hill the raised decking can be seen by the neighbours. We remedied this with some bespoke garden panels. These were made from steel and then powder coated. These make a wonderful addition to the Millboard and Accoya Balustrade.
The clients feedback was “Karl is a professional. Courteous, skilled, experienced, enthusiastic, energetic, and listens to his customers. We hired Karl and his team to completely landscape our back garden. It was a boring but blank canvas. Karl immediately had ideas and shared thoughts and listened to our ideas and thoughts too. Karl and his team worked hard in all weathers, to create a beautiful garden for us. Somewhere we want to sit and spend time and enjoy the lovely thing Karl and his team have created for us. Karl and his team go above and beyond. I would highly recommend Karl and his team to create some magical for you, and to do it really well.”
The Garden in 2020
This is how the garden looked when we first finished in 2020. We have since revisited this project to check up on the garden two years later
