Designed by Aros Architects is a fine CLT frame providing the basic structure to the new coffee shop on the Quantum Business Park in Maidenhead. Floor to ceiling glazed units allow maximum natural light into the room. These windows flow from the front and rear of the built, disrupted by the structural sections of natural timber mullions.
The surrounding vernacular, multiple story commercial office buildings, and huge glazed boxes, by comparison, they are massive.
The coffee shop is curved on both sides, with complex curves as they both have different radii. Although small in structure the building has a complex design with a distinct contrast between natural and charred timber.
Charred Kebony timber cladding in a standard TG&V profile allowed simple fixings and didn’t disrupt the curved nature of the design. The cladding was secured with stainless steel black-tipped screws. Shou Sugi Ban™ Cladding materials for this project have been supplied by Exterior Solutions Ltd.
