Ecodek Composite Decking Installation

Islington

Client Brief for Ecodek garden decking

Recommending a professional decking company is probably the best endorsement any company can have. The client had researched a sensible composite decking option for their garden and wanted to use Ecodek. Unsure of how to construct or how to choose a tradesperson to design and build it they contacted Ecodek.

Ecodek recommended Karl Harrison Landscapes Ltd as they have been installing decking platforms for more than a decade. They are also a Professional Ecodek installation company.

Initially the client said “We’d like to make the back end of the garden a usable space again. It’s where the sun hits at the end of the day so perfect for entertaining. They were set on using EcoDek Heritage because of the anti-slip and no maintenance nature “.

Quoting for a garden decking installation

Karl sprang into action, performed a site survey and offered solutions to the clients’ questions. The concept sketches were provided and the project was quoted for within a couple of days.

The Ecodek boards are made in the UK from UK recycled plastics and timber; This appeals to many clients.

Small and simple garden decking quotations are a simple task, and are usually provided free with no obligation. There are some decking projects where that are rather complex and need a concept drawing before a quotation can be obtained. Once this concept has been approved, the dimensions can be used to quantify the project and a quotation can be formed. These projects are designed from first principles and carry a design fee from the outset.

Decking Design with Ecodek Heritage boards

The decking had to go over the top of the existing concrete patio. We did need to consider the difference in height. This wasn’t high enough to justify balustrade but did need some steps. We made 2 steps finishing them with the Ecodek matching colour fascia board to cover the risers and other sides of the deck that would otherwise be exposed.

There were some massive climbing roses and we decided to trim these back as part of the project, spanning over 3 metres into the garden. We also used some Use Class 4 treated rail sleepers to form a planter to the rear of the decking. The deck boards over sailed the sleepers which allowed the planter to be at the same level of the decking.

Ecodek Heritage colour range

The EcoDek Heritage Brecon Shale colour offers a natural tone that compliments the rest of the garden. Ecodek have their own screws with colour matched tips. We surfaced fixed the decking by countersinking the screws; this gives a flush finish. This decking also has a long-life warranty for 25 Years.

Overall this decking was 27 sqm and took 4 days to build start to finish. This is exactly what we allowed for.

Can I put my fire bowl on decking?

The client already had a fire bowl that they use frequently and wanted it relocated onto the new decking platform. In order to make this fit for purpose and safe we used 2 porcelain tiles 600x1200mm; these sit on the same substructure as the decking. This was a simple and cost effective addition.

Karl Said “I do love the colour coordinated screws, sat in countersunk holes… they’re very neat”
